Reading Games Online

Reading is not everyone’s’ cup of tea, in fact they say, if you want to hide something from an average person just write it in a book. For kid this is even worse since for a long time, parents have used reading more as a punishment rather than an enjoyable and fun activity. We all can remember the many times our parents sent us to our study rooms after doing a wrong.

For many of us this attitude goes on to adulthood and even passed on to our beloved children. But can reading be fun? Are there any activities that can motivate us to read more? Thank God some creative nerds have a solution, online reading games. All we have to do is identify the best and most efficient for our purposes.

Naturally, most of the games are targeted at kids. The games motivate the kids to read more by incorporating fun activities. The online reading games are an online version of the nursery rhymes games we all loved in nursery school. The games helped us learn certain pronunciations, made us look forward to go the next school day.

Most online reading games have added the most popular cartoon characters to their menu just to motivate the kids more. To a kid Mickey Mouse or Scooby doo leading them through a story adventure is just but an extension of play. To the parent it’s learning time. Sending a child from the TV, to the study room to read using an online reading game is suddenly no longer a punishment. It’s fun. So much fun that the kid can come from home straight to the study room.

The most important part of the online reading game is not only the graphics but also the sound the part that the kid uses his or her hands to navigate the game. This, unlike learning in a typical class, where learning is mostly concentrates on sight and sounds. Online reading games add another dimension to reading. The touch, you can call it the hand on part, research has shown that learning is best achieved when as many of the five senses are at use, preferably simultaneously.

A game like ‘Roy the singing zebra’, guides the young learner to pronounce words perfectly. The child moves the zebra to the next word using a joy stick. The next word is often hidden in a jungle, where the zebra lives. The funny voice of the zebra makes the words stick more strongly in the young brain.

As we have seen the advantages of online reading games’ are numerous. However, the parents must ensure that the game is not only written by real life teachers but also approved or accredited by the relevant authorities. Advice from fellow parents is vital. The teacher should also be consulted as more often than not, they spend most of their time with the child and would know the difficulty in reading. Online reading games should also never replace real life studies; the two should compliment each other.
